We’re super excited to welcome four new faces to our lab! Each comes with a different background(biochemistry, materials science, biophysics) and with a great passion for science. They’re bringing fresh perspectives and energy to the lab. Let’s meet them!
Silja completed her Master’s degree in Matter to Life at the University of Heidelberg. During her Master’s thesis, she worked on fluorescent probes for live cell labelling at the MPI MR in the group of Prof. Kai Johnsson. She is currently pursuing her PhD in the Hyman lab, where her research is focused on the analysis of stress granules and their characteristics.
Sophie recently earned her Integrated Master’s Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford, where she completed her Master’s project under the supervision of Prof. Dame Amanda Fisher. Sophie is now a predoctoral guest in our lab, where she is investigating cGAS condensates.
Athina comes from Greece. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Crete (UoC). She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the Center for Regenerative Therapies of Dresden (CRTD) of Technical University of Dresden (TUD). In our lab, Athina is working on her master’s thesis, investigating the effect of oxidative stress on RNA binding of the ALS-related protein TDP-43
Erwin is master student in biophysics with a background in chemistry. He is currently working on an internship project at the MPI-CBG. His interest in phase separation began with a university project. focused on synthetic cells, and he is keen to further explore the mechanics of phase separation, envisioning future applications of this research.
