Cliff Brangwynne and Tony Hyman received their 2023 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences for discovering a fundamental mechanism of cellular organization mediated by phase separation of proteins and RNA into membraneless liquid droplets at this year’s ceremony, with a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This prize is often referred to as the “Oscars of Science”—and quite literally so: the red carpet was rolled out at the ceremony at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, lined with celebrities and tech leaders.
