The final Lab Symposium of 2025 began with Akshaye’s presentation on his PhD research. As he counts down the days to his defense, his talk marked an exciting milestone and set an energetic tone for the day. Daxiao followed with a presentation of her work and shared the wonderful news of her new position as a Group Leader at the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation.

We are incredibly proud of her and will be sharing more details about her research group soon.

The final scientific talk of the symposium was delivered by Elsa, who presented her work entitled “Spatial regulation of glycolytic enzymes in mammalian cells.” Her presentation sparked lively brainstorming sessions and in-depth scientific discussions—what could be more fun than an interactive and collaborative talk?

Just before the symposium concluded, we celebrated Jie as he embarked on his new journey with his own lab at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was showered with heartfelt congratulations and thoughtful gifts, including a Dresden-special puzzle to remember his time here, a Hyman Lab–designed coffee cup, and a special wellness coupon to be used in China.

Adding to the festive spirit, Silja and Tony surprised everyone with a musical performance to congratulate Jie and bring a warm Christmas vibe as 2025 comes to an end with many accomplishments.

The final surprise of the symposium turned the tables on Tony, as the team presented him with a gift to celebrate and support his new role at EMBL.

We are thrilled to see him step into this well-deserved position and look forward to the inspiration he will continue to bring to the scientific community. You can read more on Tony’s new role at EMBL here

We wrapped up the day with a new group photo and a visit to the Christmas Market to enjoy some Glühwein. Cheers to all the achievements of 2025—and to many exciting new beginnings ahead!
